American Export is a programme of workshops, talks, film, performance and visual art at The University of Westminster and sites across Birmingham city centre exploring the ubiquity of American culture via post colonial and transatlantic prisms. Featuring new work by artists Jen Liu, Hetain Patel, Emma Smith and Tito & Tita, American Export highlights the impact of American cultural and economic ideas on Britain, China and the Philippines.
Within the context of three countries that have a distinct relationship with the culture of America, featured artists, invited speakers and participants offer a range of perspectives exploring the influence of American culture on modes of industrial production, economic policy, cultural representation and identity formation. Collectively their work unpacks the complexity and impact of social, political and economic relationships from international frames of reference.
American Export is curated by Christina Millare and developed with support from The Centre for Research and Education in Art and Media (CREAM) at the University of Westminster, Grand Union and Arts Council England. Participating partner venues and organisations in Birmingham will be announced with Grand Union soon.
